There are a number of tools and options that Ruislip Online offers visitors to make using and re-using the site a more enjoyable experience - and these can also save you time.
Use of some, or all, of these tools is recommended - where each offers different options and benefits.
In the table below you will find them explained
| Join the Mailing List | The mailing list is maintained by Ruislip
Online and never used to send SPAM, nor would it ever be sold. It
presently has about 1000 members (2007) and these people get about 4
mailings a year advising them of local information and web site "news".
There is not set pattern to these mailings, indeed, rather like the 114 they come in groups, two in a row then nothing for ages..... |

| The Ruislip Online Toolbar | Provided to Ruislip Online free by
Conduit this sits at
the top of your browser and provides you with a Google Search engine,
pop-up blocker and links to various pages on the web site (which change
from time to time) such as the message board, gossip section etc.
This is used to tell people of other "Ruislip News" without the need to send an e-mail. All I do is change the toolbar and hey presto it changes on your PC. A recent example (2007) being a link was changed when the Windmill Pub in Ruislip Manor was knocked down to give uses a link directly to pictures of it in the process of being demolished. Almost 100 users of the web site have downloaded this toolbar and no known problems have ever been advised. |

| The update tool
|
Suppose your interest is in, say,
The old USAF base at South Ruislip. Now on there are
memories of those that were stationed there, loads of them, actually
loads and loads and loads of them!
Now suppose you would like to be advised when somebody news adds another one. Well this clever tool allows you to to just that - not for just this page, but any page, anywhere on the Internet!!! Pop in your e-mail address, pop in the address of the page you are interested in and hey presto - an e-mail every time the page is changed (I guess it works on comparing dates). |
It should be stressed the Ruislip Online uses all the items recommended above, as far as we can work out they do not generate SPAM, nor do they infect the computer with spyware, they do however deposit cookies on the pc which should be allowed to pass any filters. If anyone has ANY problems with any of the above items Ruislip Online would be interested to hear from you.
