The White Bear
A listed building on the road out of Ruislip towards Ickenham it has two gardens, a grassy one to the rear by its car park and a patio at the front. No pub in Ruislip offers such entertainment on a sunny day than this. The five exit mini roundabout offers near misses on a regular basis, and some not so near, but given that everyone is only going slowly it offers the onlooker more of a show than a sick interest in the macabre!
Inside the pub offers food and extends a welcoming atmosphere. Three TV sets towards the front show sport etc.
The pub in the background, and that roundabout, taken from Sharps Lane
Where it is, by road
It is on Ickenham Road, which leaves Ruislip High Street at the crossroads in the centre, towards Ickenham. Proceed along Ickenham Road to the dreaded roundabout and then take the second exit, where the first (Kingsend which comes up from the traffic lights by the station in Ruislip High Street) is almost a u-turn to your left. This is Wood Lane, the entrance to the car park is only 20 yards down this road to your right. Alternatively, from the traffic lights in Ruislip, head up Kingsend towards Ickenham and at the roundabout take the first exit in to Wood Lane.

Real ale
None
Access via public transport
Reasonable From the tube station walk to the traffic lights and then head up Kingsend along side Quilters. It is at the top of the hill by the roundabout to the left.. Total walk from the tube station about 15 minutes away and the U1 bus stops very nearby, which runs from Ruislip Station to Uxbridge and beyond. It is about the same distance from West Ruislip station as Ruislip Station
Pub Crawl Potential
OK. The The Orchard is on the other side of the roundabout, so you could spend an evening flitting between to two. In Ruislip High Street there are four pubs, but you face a 15 minute walk to the nearest, Sweeney's (via Ickenham Road) or The Laurel via Kingsend.
Ruislip Online review
I visited this pub on Monday 31st January 2005 in the evening to watch a game of football being shown on Sky TV. Not a major game so very few in and the TV sets though on were not on the sports channel. I asked if the game were to be/could be shown and within seconds the set was switched over and the volume set to the "correct" level (not too loud!). This was carried out with a smile by the gentleman I asked, like he wanted to please me and get me to stay (and, of course, get money from me, and there is nothing wrong in that!).
The pub, when I arrived, was quiet, a few around the bar who looked to be on their way home from work and they left, leaving, I would guess, about four in there! It filled up a little in the two hours I was there but was by no means busy. However, it was a winter Monday evening, so perhaps not unexpected.
The thing that really impressed me was how smart the garden at the back looked, even in the middle of winter. The grass looked freshly cut! Inside although the layout has not changed over the years now where once filthy benches stood newly upholstered ones stand, where there were once drab curtains new, lighter ones hang. A bit less traditional perhaps but smart and clean. The whole place looks clean and welcoming.
The pub had two real ales on offer (no longer sold as at 8/06) and I could find no fault with the London Pride I had a pint or two of. I did not look at the food menu but gather food is served.
This pub has changed slowly over the last couple of years from a bit of a tip to one of the Ruislip smart set, credit where credit is due and all it lacks now is...............customers. Well worth a visit. Over to you!
(Since writing this review the pub has stopped selling real ale - so I no longer go there.....)

I have visited the White Bear pub since your review (old review ROL) and since Christine and David have become the new owners late last year (since gone it seems, see below). It is only fair to comment on the vast improvements since your visit, and to update those comments on the website. I have to say that cleanliness and tidiness seems to be the order of the day. Approaching from the car park, you are immediately greeted by the immaculately attended rear garden with ample new wooden furniture and parasols. The pub was featuring special prices on various beers, and the food menu was varied and reasonably priced. What was most impressive was the absolute and total cleanliness and freshness of the toilets. The White Bear is a friendly, well run Ruislip pub and deserves to do well under new ownership.....and visitors can still watch the "goings on" on the mini roundabout, from the new chairs and tables at the front of the building

(It should be noted that the comments written below were by one of the new owners!)
Well what can I say? The initial reading was very detrimental and I would probably say with just cause, for 2002. (Now removed ROL, as out of date) NOT quite the same for now, 2004.
The White Bear has been taken over yet again, and not a moment to soon I might add!!! A long awaited breath of fresh air has just blown into the pub.
The food is out of this world, taste, variety, great portions and tailored to your taste. The beer is clean & crisp and a pretty good selection too.
Thank the Lord the music has changed and the entertainment is on the up, saw a fantastic act, man swallows billiard ball, sugar, fish & brings them back up again on request!!!! (ROL - really!!) I f you're looking for somewhere to relax, eat well, drink well & not be surrounded by 'KIDDY' drinkers head down the Bear and I'll see you there.
And be warmly greeted by Jon, Max & Mitch ( you may well remember Jon & Max) back in the good old days!!!! cos i certainly do.

2008 - Please note that this page is not kept up to date and the information on it may well be wrong!!!
Anything special?
Well the aforementioned roundabout. Before is was put there where Kingsend and Wood Lane came out in to what was then just a cross roads there was a little bit of "no mans land!"! An acquaintance who was a driving examiner told me he went the wrong way around this roundabout around once a week. Sharps Lane is now one way, away from this junction, when it was two way the fun was even greater.
If you sit outside on a sunny Sunday a plethora of people will stop and ask you for directions to Ruislip Lido, so have a good laugh and print out the page linked say six times, folk will think you are a genius and it will save you having to keep repeating yourself!
