Recently the Borough has received enquiries about the provision of a Re-use bank where residents can take unwanted household items that are too good to throw away. In response the Waste Division has recently installed a special Re-Use bank - sometimes referred to as a 'scrap store' - at the New Years Green Lane Civic Amenity site in Harefield. Items suitable for re-use include :-
1. Paints - full or half tins
2. Re-usable DIY materials - windows, doors, sinks, wallpapers, paint brushes, fixtures, fittings, plumbing materials
3. Hand tools
4. Chinaware and other crockery - cups, saucers, plates, mugs, serving dishes
5. Kitchen items - cutlery, pots, pans, utensils
6. Furniture - chairs, sofas, beds, stools, tables
7. Soft furnishing - rugs, curtains, cushions, bedding
8. Garden items - gardening equipment, furniture, ornaments, tools
9. Children's toys and games
10. Bicycles - children and adult sizes
11. Sports equipment - rackets, footballs, bats
12. Musical instruments
13. Mobile phones
14. Books
15. Music CDs
16. Videos
17. DVDs
18. Collectables
19. Memorabilia
Residents are invited to sort out their unwanted goods and take them up to the Re-Use bank in Harefield. The site is open 7 days a week from 8:00am - 4:00pm. Opening hours are extended to 6:00pm during British Summer Time.
Whilst you are there why not take the opportunity to browse through the items already delivered for re-use and help yourself to anything you like. However, please note that as this is a new initiative the bank may be rather empty to start with. Residents wishing to use the bank should park their cars in the main recycling area. Site staff will be on hand to answer any queries.
New facilities for recycling waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) are now available at both the New Years Green Lane Civic Amenity site in Harefield and the Victoria Road Civic Amenity site in South Ruislip. Typical WEEE items include :-
1. Large domestic applications - including fridges and freezers, cookers, dishwashers, tumble dryers etc
2. Televisions
3. Computers (residents should ensure any personal data is removed before recycling their old computers)
4. Small (mixed) WEEE including radios, hair dryers, broken electrical toys etc.
Both sites are open 7 days a week from 8:00am - 4:00pm. Opening hours are extended to 6:00pm during British Summer Time.
