Please note this is NOT the web site for the crematorium itself.
The local council do have a small page for the crematorium on their web site

The Woodman, mentioned above, is just a few hundred yards from Breakspear Crematorium and is able to provide a local venue for a post funeral gathering, click on the link and contact them for more information.

Situated on the outskirts of Ruislip Breakspear Crematorium covers an area of around 27 acres and is reputed to be the third largest Crematorium in the UK.

How to find Breakspear Crematorium:- In searching the net it was discovered that there appear to be no good directions on how to find Breakspear Crematorium and as this is one place persons may have to find who are travelling from afar, such directions are offered here, or details of how to get there by public transport.

Local Map

In a nutshell Breakspear Crematorium is situated just off the A4180 (a road known locally as Ducks Hill Road), close to Ruislip Lido. Should you loose your way most local people will know where it is, so just ask, if they don't then ask for directions to Ruislip Lido. If they don't know where that is ask somebody else! The crematorium is well signed on the approaches to the Lido.

It should be noted that there is adequate, free, car parking within the grounds of Crematorium and although there are two chapels it does not matter which car park you use as they are very close together.

Note:- The nearest airport is Heath row. From there either get a taxi or take the tube to Acton Town then change and get a tube to Ruislip Station.

Map with greater scale (Tip: Look for Uxbridge, then above it, in less bold print, Ruislip, and above that Ruislip Common, the crematorium is just "below" the C in Common)

From the M1, or north of London

Leave the M1 and join M25 towards Heathrow Airport, leave the M25 at junction 18 and follow signs for Rickmansworth on the A404. Leave Rickmansworth on the A404 for Northwood, where signs lead the way around the town centre. After about 2 miles on this fairly fast road you will turn a sharp right hand bend, pass the front of Mount Vernon Hospital and drop down a hill where you will see The Gate pub on your left. Turn right almost opposite The Gate pub at the traffic lights on to Ducks Hill Road, signposted to Ruislip.

This road first passes houses then enters an area boarded on each side by woodland. Having climbed it then drops down a long hill flanked by woods. Look out for the Six Bells on your right and turn right soon after this in to Breakspear Road at the (new 2005) mini-roundabout, where there is a petrol station on the corner immediately before this turn.

The crematorium is about 30 yards up this road to the right.

From the south of London

Come around the M25 to junction 16 where it joins the M40. Take the M40 towards London. Almost immediately you will come to the end of the motorway (M40) and the now A40 will start to ascend a hill. Take the first exit, Swakeleys Roundabout (NOT Junction 1 of the M40). At the roundabout turn left on to the B467 towards Ickenham and Ruislip.

Next come two small roundabouts. Stay on the B467 at the first roundabout you come to (second exit) but at the second turn left on to Breakspear Road South. (It will be signposted to Harefield, but be careful as the turning to the left at the first roundabout is also sign posted that way, do not take the wrong road!)

Stay on this road for about one mile and you will see a pub called the Breakspear Arms standing on a junction. Turn right immediately before this pub. Stay on this road almost to the end and the crematorium will be found on your left, 30 yards back from the junction where the road ends.

From Central London

Leave central London on the A40 signposted Oxford. Pass Northolt Aerodrome  (where, apart from the long fence to your right just after the Polish War Memorial Roundabout, the short lampposts indicate that you are passing it).

Stay on the A40 for around one more mile. The road passes under three bridges, two road, one rail and then starts a gentle climb. The next bridge it passes under is a foot bridge, this heralds your approach to Swakleys Roundabout where you should exit up the slip road and at the roundabout turn right on to the B467 signed to Ickenham and Ruislip

Public Transport.

It is not that easy to get to by public transport. You need to get the tube to Ruislip (underground) Station (NOTE: - there are several underground  stations with the name Ruislip in them, you should aim for Ruislip Station, NOT, South, West, Manor or Gardens) and then the H13 bus from the bus garage outside, or the 331, both of which stop close by the crematorium, either ask the driver or look out for it passing The Plough pub on your right, get off at the stop AFTER it stops by this pub, (keep an eye out for a petrol station in front and the mini-roundabout and get off just before it).

From Ruislip Station you could get a taxi if you wished, just outside to the right as you exit are Windmill Cars, telephone 01895 624444, distance about 3 miles to the crematorium.

If you travel from the West or North West of London (by example from High Wycombe, Alylesbury or up as far as Birmingham), you may well choose to come on the Chiltern Line rail network. Chiltern Line trains usually stop at West Ruislip, from there you will need to order a taxi, or take a bus in to Ruislip (from the stop on the opposite side for the road to the station).

The most likely bus to come will be the U1 which goes to Ruislip Station, alight here and get a 331 or H13 (see above) you MIGHT see a U10, you can get on this but it goes to Ruislip High Street, get off at the stop just after it turns left at the traffic lights and wait at this stop for a 331 or H13 (see above). You could walk from this stop back to the bus garage which is diagonally across the traffic lights, behind the large block of flats, but you will gain nothing by doing so.

See the Chiltern Line Web Site

cremlayout.jpg (1070018 bytes) The picture to the left shows the interior layout of the crematorium. The original is quite small and has some very small print clicking on it will enlarge it to a detailed copy, where the file is quite large and thus will be slow to load. Broadband users only in reality.

If you wish to find a local pub, turning right out of the crematorium and covering 300 yards will take you to The Woodman (after service buffet possible) or a little further along this road you will find the Breakspear Arms.

Turn left and left again for the Six Bells, or left and right for the Waters Edge. If you need a walk and a breath of fresh air then there is a lovely one+ mile walk around the lido, just head for the Waters Edge and you can't miss it.

Ruislip Online provides this information purely as a service to persons who might not be able to find the crematorium, it is only here as there are no other good directions provided.

I appreciate that you may be reading this page at a time of great sadness, but was it helpful? Why not just send me an e-mail to let me know?
