To get the most out of your local web site it is recommended that you at least spend a few minutes working your way through the options on this page.
As the owner of Ruislip Online I can tell you that I have all the options suggested loaded on my PC and seem to suffer no ill effects by way of junk mail or spyware etc. (but obviously I would say that.....)
The Message Board
Lets start with the most popular page on the site (apart from the opening
index), the message board. On
this related page you can download a little cookie
that will create a shortcut to the message board on your desktop AND when you
view the board put all the messages in date order to save you looking for new
posts AND remove the advertising (shhh

The Ruislip Online Toolbar
The Ruislip Online toolbar sits at the top of your browser and provides you with direct links to Ruislip Online's main pages. It also has on it a Google search engine and various other links, including one telling you what the weather is like in Ruislip! It is often updated so I can convey information about new pages or events without having to e-mail you, they just appear on it as if by magic! News page
The news page is there to convey information about local events or happenings. It is free for people to use, where I vet what goes on there and try to keep it as up to date as possible! However, you, of course have to check everyday to see what any changes.....well not anymore. On the page is a little box you fill in and you will get an e-mail automatically after every up-date. Brilliant! (I have used it on an e-mail address of mine that gets no SPAM, and it still gets no SPAM.) Visit the news page now
USAF South Ruislip
The is no doubt that this is a very popular section on the site. Visitors are invited to post stories of their times there (here), and this page is now very long. It is assumed that they have read those posted by others before posting their own, and might like to read those posted by others after them. Well now they can. All they have to do is pop their e-mail address in the little box at the top of the page to be notified of any changes. Brilliant! (Just like the one on the page above)

The search engine
The Ruislip Online search engine appears on various pages on the site. Here is it below
If you pop in there what you are looking for you will be offered a list of suggested places on the site. Try it yourself with, say, TOOLBAR, (one of the items mentioned above). Hey presto a link to the page where you can get the toolbar from. Or try it with LIDO - where if you do the latter you will see just how much information on the Lido is actually on this site!It is a really quick way of getting around this site.
The mailing list
Ruislip Online invites you to join the mailing list. The list is split in to two halves. One for those I think live locally and one for those who live away from Ruislip, either in High Wycombe, High Barnet or high on a mountain in deepest Africa. Those that live locally get more messages, as those that live high on a mountain in....do not really need to know that "so and so car park" is getting unwanted attention from car thieves....or whatever. So go on, join our mailing list (If you do not like our mailings you can always come off the list!). On average those outside of Ruislip get four mailings a year, those locally about eight.
